We’re excited to share our journey of turning a pool shed into a fully functional home gym! If you missed the first part of our story, we’ve been inspired by various workout spaces to create our own workout haven.

The Starting Point:
We began with an old shed that had a pegboard, walls, and a ceiling that needed to go. It was a small space, but we saw great potential. Here’s a snapshot of the initial state of our shed. (Image: “Before” photo of the shed)

The Progress So Far:
After tearing everything down, we raised the ceiling to make the space feel more open. The shed is so small that it’s tough to photograph, but we’ve made significant progress. (Image: “In-progress” photo with ceiling work)

Home Gym Design Vision:

Now, let’s get into the details of our design:

  1. Brick Walls:
We’re using faux brick panels that we’ve previously used in our old house for the backsplash. These will be painted white to make the space feel bigger and brighter.
  2. Industrial Fan:
Since it’s a gym, we’re going for an industrial vibe with this retractable fan. It’s budget-friendly and perfect for good air circulation during workouts.
  3. Mirrors:
Mirrors are essential for checking your form while working out. We also plan to add LED light strips behind them for some extra flair.
  4. Plants:
A floor plant (Robert might not be on board with this) and a shelf plant will add life to the space. A little greenery never hurts!
  5. Gym Flooring:
We’ve found interlocking padded floor tiles, which are budget-friendly and gentle on the joints for workouts.
  6. Storage:
    • Shelf: We’ll use it for small equipment like kettlebells and hand weights.
    • Wire Basket: To hold gym towels.
    • Cube Shelf: Additional storage for smaller items.
    • Mini Fridge: For keeping water bottles cool during intense workouts.
    • Bluetooth Speaker: A small speaker will provide the soundtrack for our workout sessions.
  7. Art Pieces:
We’re adding some fun and motivational artwork to the walls:
    • Vintage Fighter Art – A nod to our favorite Ron Swanson character.
    • Vintage Workout Art – A playful piece that gives the gym a bit of personality.
    • “The Man in the Arena” Quote Art – A gift for Robert, perfect for staying motivated during workouts.

Future Plans.
We also have workout equipment like a squat rack and a cardio bike, which will be added once the gym is completed.

Progress Check:
While we’re still in the middle of the transformation, Robert is already looking forward to working out in the space. (He’s especially excited since he has an exercise science degree and has been cramming workouts in our messy garage for years.) We’re thrilled to see how it all comes together!
